    Pet Food and Feeding Rituals

What do you feed your pets and what ritual do you use before feeding them? I'm dog sitting, and the owner doesn't have a feeding ritual. So at minimum I wait for the dog to calm down and sit before I put the bowl down.

I've been reading bout raw diets ( meat, bone, liver and organs) and it's really swaying me in that direction with my future puppy.

I rotate between feeding raw and no-grain dog kibble. I usually have my dogs sit before I feed them. It's actually recommended not to feed a dog for a whole day every now and then. My japanese akita went from 8weeks to 13weeks of age on a puppy mush (80% raw meat/bones + 20% veggies). I'll be rotating to raw every time the kibble runs out for 4-6weeks, and then back on. My kibble selection is either Taste of the Wild, Wellness Core, or Orijen. I always make sure all of the kibble is grain free.

    edit:

My hunting dog (Jagd Terrier/Pit Bull cross) was brought up on all raw until he was about 7months, he's been on Kibble for about 2months, he'll be rotating back once his dry food/kibble runs out.

I mix it up due to time constraints and convenience.

Raw diet is the way to go but I just don't have much time to clean up and go shopping for meat/vegetables every couple of days so the majority of the time I feed my Nina Wellness Puppy kibbles. Shes a pom mix and they're infamous for being picky so I have to top it with some Stella and Chewys which is freeze dried raw meat in biscuit form. She loves it. The only downside is its pretty pricey.

I feed her twice a day, in the morning and when I come home from work. Make sure you leave the food there for about 20 minutes and if it doesn't eat remove it as you don't want it to develop bad eating habits and never give them human food. Not only are some harmful to them but they may never want to eat their dog food again lol.

I've been reading up and following raw/prey model diets for about 5years now. I mix it up due to convenience also.

Also, there is no such thing as a picky dog. If it's hungry enough, it'll eat it eventually when presented. If my dogs dont eat what I give them, then they don't get food. They eventually eat it. Most dogs know that if they just refuse to eat, their human will just give them something else that they want. They are like children, only people give in easier to them.

Again, there is nothing wrong with not feeding your dog for a day out of a 2 week cycle.

Soooo...I don't have a dog. But I have guinea pigs Unlimited hay and a little bit of pellets in the morning and a little at night. Add in some fresh fruits and veggies. Also one vitamin c tablet every morning.
