I wonder if any KL members own any Khmer traditional outfits? I never wore one nor own one. Well, I once wore it in 2nd grade for a Khmer's performance that I had with the classmate, if that counts. But anyhow do you guys/gals own any Khmer outfits including sarong? I don't see much people of our generation wear them except the older generations or old folks.
I have a green sampot that my grandma brought for me from cambodia. never wore it.
tried refusing it from her but she wouldn't take "ot thay, yeay. kyom ot jong bahn thay" as an answer. =( she wanted me to at least own it.
my mom owns some khmer dresses for me. sounds weird when I say it like that but I do not care for them..and they're in her closet...but for me to wear when the occasion calls for it. I've been a bridesmaid and had to wear those traditional garments. from my experience, NONE of them are comfortable. the material and adornments irritate my skin. too many layers too. and they're kinda heavy.

LOL. Awww, how sweet of her. The dresses are pretty but it does look complicated to walk in. I heard that its really uncomfortable from people that wore them. I will probably have to try on one when I get the chance to. The materials does look rough in certain area on the dresses.
Couldn't you easily get them at the temple festivals from those outside vendors? I've seen many of them. You can also buy the garments and take it to someone who'd stitch it up & customize it for you. I bought my gf several cuz she liked the material and they stitched it up for her right there and then. I think it's somewhere under her heap of clothes...I shall go check & post 'em later if I remember![]()
I own sarongs, so many my best friend took some when she moved away. I still wear them around the house, when I clean or study, lounging. I have formal wears that I wear to weddings and temple. I modernized them, so they have the texture and look of a traditional Cambodian wears, but different cut. I hope that makes sense.
yeah quite a few![]()
I never wore sarongs but my family do. I believe that wearing a sarong has a negative image to it because its what you wear when you're not productive. Everywhere I look, I just see a lot of Khmers just walking around who don't got jobs...and they usually wear sarongs. It's like the wife beater version.
Everybody is becoming more modern now and trying to keep up with the times and advance or stay ahead.
I used to have a lot but lost it all cause I move a lot. I wish I have some. I don't know where to buy it around my area.
No, I don't haha. I just bought some for my girl cuz she thought it was pretty, kinda like a souvenir. She doesn't really wear them cuz it's not in our custom, but she collects 'em anyway. I only got her the bottom part, not really the whole outfit lol. Those things are expensive!
Maybe the next time I visit those festivals I'll buy myself a man sarong haha.
Here's some. I find the patterns most fascinating & intricate.

*added a sign in case someone thinks I'm bullshitting lol
Ivan, those sampots are beautiful. The material is visually appealing but it's not comfortable at all for wearing. I think the fabric would better serve as decoration.

Some of the fabrics are rough, but some are silky soft. I'm not even sure how you're supposed to wear it lol
They make it look so easy, but dude lost me when he tied the knot on top.
I find the ladies wearing Khmer traditional clothing very sexy! Yes, it's as sexy as one wearing a Lakers jersey!
How about you ladies take a picture of yourselves in them and post it up?
Oh do I sound like ah ka map? meh
my outfits are very simple because my old granny made them for me![]()
I do have fancy one that was made from cambodia but i think it's too fancy for me to wear to the temple. kyoum peak tam robeab boran

the fancy traditional ones...too much work getting dolled up in them. sucks that you'd have to have someone who specializes in these 'costumes' to help you. I felt violated by the woman who worked on me. lol. she wasn't very friendly either.
olddd photo(when I was 18). my sister and I.
I had to wear several different outfits. too lazy to look for the other photos.

Legit Khmer clothing. I like that pic.................only if there werent' cover ups on the faces!![]()
If you walk around looking like Jesus or dressing like George Washington, you look like a bum and goofball. That look may look noble or representative of a president in the past, but not nowadays. It is what it is. At least in America, when you got a job and productive things to do, you don't wear sarongs. Yes, sarongs are to be worn at home, but you got so many jobless or lazy Khmers walking the streets wearing sarongs that the image has been set.
