I hated when professors talked too much. Oh how I struggled to stay alert and to keep from dozing off. It was torture! It was hard to be mentally active in some classes. The way each student process and store info varies depending on their learning type. I'm a visual learner and I think active. I envy students who only has to hear things once and they'll understand or remember. I end up looking like a dumb@$$ when I ask the teacher to explain and I still don't get it. I need visuals.

Yeah, I don't think it would work for me either just because I'm so used to the way I do things. Why didn't it work for you?

Anyone have a special/weird study technique? During high school, chemistry was the first class to kick my butt and I resolved myself to a different way of studying. I wrote everything, formulas, etc on a large index card and sat in front of a mirror and recited everything over and over until I memorized it. Took forever but ended the year with an A+. LOL. I'd never do something like this ever again.
There are things beyond my control. And then there's me.

Whenever I study for tests I usually always use nemonics (sp?) to ace that test.

For example if I need to remember names of people or places I take the first letters of each name and remember it in an order that makes sense. Then when a question appears about that name it would pop into my head.

It's been a while since I was in school. About 4 years now. However, I'll be taking some continuing education courses online starting in a few days.

Never again? Who needs chemistry right? Lol, definitely JK. I'm actually part of the industry that pushes forward everyday to give doctors and lab professionals what they need to save lives. We Biochemists do things from lab testings of unknown compounds to creating chemical reactions for hospitals and laboratories worldwide. We take part in scientific disciplines that primarily focuses on serving the fields of Biology, Cytopathology, Histotechnology, Pathology, and Immunohistochemistry. Whoa, try saying that 3x fast lol. Anyhow, you've missed out since you'd decided not to do something like this again. I'm sure that being the person you are you would've found it rewarding

I actually loved chemistry. I meant that I'd never attempt to study that way again. I had a lot of time on my hands at that point was the only reason I studied that way.

    As much as I did enjoy chemistry, in the end, I'm very much a liberal-arts minded person and don't regret the path I've chosen. I'll leave all the compound testing to you. :}

i like to make notes, and then make notes of my notes so by the time i make the double reduced notes i've already memorized the material or it makes my study time that much smaller. also, if there are too many terms to memorize i just make fun little sayings like BG movement for like basil ganglia controls movement lols. i hope this helps

Disregard what your instructor tells you to study for and study everything. That scumbag is tricky.

I have this app on my smart phone called "AnkiDroid" -- it's a compilation of flash cards that people have already created and they get sorted out in decks from subject to subject. You can also upload and share your flash cards. Pretty useful.

As for studying tips, I just read the textbook. No bullshit no nothing. I don't write extensive notes. I don't study in groups. I just read the textbook and absorb knowledge by being interested in it. If it's a really boring subject, I feign interest and most of it sticks. Usually after every chapter I try to summarize by talking it out. If I don't remember a specific topic, I go back and re-read and then try to summarize it again in my own words.

I don't procrastinate, but I will admit my study habits are weaker than most students. I just finish my readings on the recommended date on the syllabus and before a midterm or final, I just read the chapters again. If I over prepare, then I psych myself out because deep down I know the material. Just gotta relax.

The main thing is just going to class. You go to class and keep up with the readings and there's no reason to do bad on a quiz or whatever. Unless you're one of those people that surf on Facebook an entire lecture then well... I feel sorry for your parents.

If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. - Albert Einstein

interesting. all my history classes mainly focus on research papers. there are a few times that we actually have little quizzes. best way to remember history is to like it! if you dont then you just gotta listen and participate in class lectures so you can observe the information without realizing it. you mostly need to cover big events, definitions, names and why theyre important. dates are not that important believe it or not. flashcards are really helpful when it comes to memorizing historical names and events. good luck. I love history so its easy for me since I remember everything by heart. but then again I read history books for fun

Nah. I enjoy being a Khmer Librarian for the moment.

And then maybe a Khmer professor or Khmer President of a University! LOL. Dream big.

Smoke a little before I go to class and take good lecture notes. Smoke a little before reading or reviewing notes. And smoke a little before the exam.

Test stress and test anxiety is eliminated in this method of studying.

Doesn't work with math though. I found the only way to get that is by working problems. Repetition.

Believe it or not, clothing is a factor for me when it comes to studying. I tend to gain more when I'm wearing my scrubby home clothes lol.

Haha same here. Sweat pants with a hoody, with my feet crossed on a chair. GREAT SUCCESS.

When I'm in a library in a cubicle all I can think of is how much I'd rather be home.
