    Job Interview attire for guys?

So I went to a few department stores and wasn't sure what to get for a little part-time job outfit. I went with black pants so far but I still need a shirt (white or blue) and shoes. I'm not sure which style for shoes is acceptable (square or traditional) and what is the nicest dress shirt without spending so much.

Guys, what do you recommend for a job interview?

I suggest going to Ross or Marshalls for your interview clothes. They're very affordable and look great.

I think how you dress for an interview all really depends what position and which company you're applying for. But there is nothing wrong going up a notch with a nice coat and tie that matches your black dress pants.

I think the color of the shirt really does show something about a person especially when I meet them for the first time in a work environment. Just make sure it's not a bright ass blue shirt or some fruity ass colors such as purple, peach, and lavender, which could make you look like less of a serious person. I say when in doubt, go with the white shirt haha. Same goes with the tie's color. Don't go overboard with the tie's design - stick to the diagonally striped ties. I think the plain colored ties make me look like I'm presenting myself as a plain person with no creative ideas to give to the company, so I usually avoid those. Someone told me, without explanation, that the squared toe shoes make you look less confident than the pointy ones. Maybe the squared toe shoes make you look like the type who doesn't think outside the box only because it's boxy-looking, whereas the pointy ones represents someone who is a go-getter and more assertive? Hell I don't know haha.

All of that mentioned above, along with a great smile, an energy boost from a Rockstar, and being yourself, will definitely get you far.

You already got a job interview set up in the upcoming days or weeks? or you're just preparing for when the time comes? Whenever it is, good luck!

Go to Polo Ralph Lauren. They always have professional to casual oxford shirts. I'd get a variety of pastel colors. And I'd wear khakis dress pants and loafers to go with it.

A light blue shirt works best. How do I know? When I was getting out of the military they brought in a bunch of HR guys from big companies throughout the midwest and they all said the light blue usually catches their attention. It shows confidence but not arrogance or something along those lines. And they always tell the guys getting out of the military when they go for job interviews at these large companies to make sure to wear that color.

edit: but then again, it's just a part time gig. Just wear anything halfway decent and you should be fine.

Light blue shirt? My fav for this occasion. That's what I wore when I went to interviews w/o a coat. Thanks for info about HR cuz it really helps what I wasn't sure about. I just like the light blue color for a similar reason though.

Lucas, would you mind telling us what industry you're applying into?

Specialty eateries. Starbucks. lol. Part-time while I attend school, but the question really is furthermore in general for future reference on interviews. Its all quite new to me regardless of the years I've spent in the military profession. Never had to do a resume and job interview in the military!

I've worked at Starbucks and I wore brown khakis for my interview. You want to show that you can assimilate into their work environment. Easy for them to picture you behind the counter if you can show that you look like a Barista.

I might've been the best dressed at the mass interview (for all Starbucks in the area). So, maybe I was a bit overdressed with my dress shirt and tie, but I feel that the interview went really well and I hope to hear from them. If not, I hope my unemployment kicks in. lol.

I think a nice and not too bright dress shirt and a pair of slacks is fine. I would prefer squared toed shoes. Good luck on getting that job!
It's the hardest thing I'll ever have to do, to turn around and walk away pretending I don't love you.

Best advice I've ever gotten is to dress the way you would if you were the boss of that place.

If the part time job is hip then go with the rounder toe shoe but if not then wear whatever shoe you want to.

IMO, you can't go wrong with a long sleeve white dress shirt and blue / black / charcoal slacks. These are classic conservative looks that are approiate for just about any interview, regardless of the industry.

Make sure you have polished clean dress shoes (black works with all the pant colors i mentioned but if you want to try some brown shoes make sure they go well with the slacks).

Make sure your hair is kept up and that facial hair is
groomed if not taken off completely.

Since the clothes I listed above are basically essentials for any man I would recommend buying something that fits well and seems as tapered to your body as you're comfortable with that's also good quality so it will last. Whether that's from Nordstrom or J. Crew is really your call.

Best of luck in the job search.

Black shirt, white belt, and black slacks with no tie. Very versatile and dominant in front of an interview panel.

I'm sorry, but I think these kind of questions are sad. How you dress for a job interview? Just look at most people working in the professional world. If you live in the city, just look at how most of the people going to work dress. During lunch time, they are everywhere. Dress like the people on the news!!!! Of course, I would say that a jacket is unnecessary most of the time but with a shirt and tie, it's all good.

I hear these questions all the time and I wonder what the hell is wrong with society? Why aren't parents teaching their kids? Why do kids lack this ability to know how to dress properly? Everybody know the latest fashion and all, but to dress for a job interview, people are puzzled?

Hey dipshit, it was a question to ask what others wear not because I don't know how to dress for an interview. Dumbass.

tan corduroy blazer, plaid shirt with a knit tie, denim jeans and raggedy brown boots exudes confidence and will outweigh your stuttering.

I like what u said about the footwear. As longs you shine 'em, the age doesn't matter.

Wear what you think is appropriate within the confines of the general definition, if a definition is given. "Business casual" is different from "business professional". I don't think you could ever be overdressed for an interview (assuming the upper limit being a suit and tie), but I'm sure u can be underdressed.

At the end of the day, don't be or dress as something you're not. Don't give them an impression of you that you cannot adhere to on a daily basis. Yea you want to make a good impression, but you're gonna be dealing with these people and their bullshit everyday. You're gonna hate any job you have if the people you work with are on a totally different level than you.

I’ve always followed the motto ”Dress for Success.” I guess it depends on the job you’re applying for, too. I remember going to a job interview about 3-4 years ago, and we all sat in a conference room awaiting our interviews. One-by-one applicants entered the room, and we had about 10 peeps in there, total. Everyone was dressed to impress except the last 2 to walk in. They wore a nice collared shirt, but w/ JEANS. We each knew right then we were only up against SEVEN other applicants.

Anyhow, I used to love attending weddings and special events just so I could suit it up. Haha. But, now I have to sport a shirt and tie 5 days a week so it’s kinda like whatev. But damn, I’ll pimp a suit OUT!
