I wonder if any KL members own any Khmer traditional outfits? I never wore one nor own one. Well, I once wore it in 2nd grade for a Khmer's performance that I had with the classmate, if that counts. But anyhow do you guys/gals own any Khmer outfits including sarong? I don't see much people of our generation wear them except the older generations or old folks.
I have a green sampot that my grandma brought for me from cambodia. never wore it.
tried refusing it from her but she wouldn't take "ot thay, yeay. kyom ot jong bahn thay" as an answer. =( she wanted me to at least own it.
my mom owns some khmer dresses for me. sounds weird when I say it like that but I do not care for them..and they're in her closet...but for me to wear when the occasion calls for it. I've been a bridesmaid and had to wear those traditional garments. from my experience, NONE of them are comfortable. the material and adornments irritate my skin. too many layers too. and they're kinda heavy.
LOL. Awww, how sweet of her. The dresses are pretty but it does look complicated to walk in. I heard that its really uncomfortable from people that wore them. I will probably have to try on one when I get the chance to. The materials does look rough in certain area on the dresses.Quote:

Couldn't you easily get them at the temple festivals from those outside vendors? I've seen many of them. You can also buy the garments and take it to someone who'd stitch it up & customize it for you. I bought my gf several cuz she liked the material and they stitched it up for her right there and then. I own sarongs, so many my best friend took some when she moved away. I still wear them around the house, when I clean or study, lounging. I have formal wears that I wear to weddings and temple. I modernized them, so they have the texture and look of a traditional Cambodian wears, but different cut. I hope that makes sense.

I never wore sarongs but my family do. I believe that wearing a sarong has a negative image to it because its what you wear when you're not productive. Everywhere I look, I just see a lot of Khmers just walking around who don't got jobs...and they usually wear sarongs. It's like the wife beater version.
Everybody is becoming more modern now and trying to keep up with the times and advance or stay ahead.
Yeah you can get them here in Long Beach. They have many shops here actually. Awesome!! You probably have a Khmer suit they goes with your gf's dress too? That would be cool if you do.Quote:
