It has happened a few times in the U.S., and the opinion piece in Wednesday's Journal of the American Medical Association says putting children temporarily in foster care is in some cases more ethical than obesity surgery.

I feel that the family should have the ability and opportunity to take the time to make changes in their life style and their children life style. All the family and parents need is proper guidance and education regarding health fitness and eating habits. No one should take a kid away from their family unless they are physically harmed, living in poor conditions or the kid is out of control by committing crimes. We live in a free country but some time it does not feel free.

I dont got no kids so I can't really answer this question practically. I do have a dog and I know for sure that I rather have my dog eat more than eat nothing at all. If she gets too fat, then thats my fault and its my responsibly if she gets to obese levels so if i can blame myself then I can say, yes parents should lose custody.

I think the children should stay with their families, but the family has to go through counseling. They also have to help their child lose the weight.

No they should not be confiscated but I do think government should have a program to help families who are suffering from obesity in kids. If they refuse to enter such programs and continue to put their child's life in jeopardy, then I could see where child custody should intervene.

Those kind of people need to be locked in a recently used porta-potty while it's being kicked down a hill.
