I am officially an interpreter, part time at least. I was a bit hesitant on becoming one since my mom always makes fun of me when I speak in khmer. I think im fluent but not to the point where I can translate in real time without stuttering especially when dealing with medical terminologies. I did have to look up a few words in khmer prior to the process though. Today I had the chance to translate for a non-English speaking Cambodian lady at the hospital who was diagnosed with breast cancer(I feel bad for her) she was surprised I was Cambodian let alone be able to speak/translate khmer. I think I like it a lot, it gives me the chance to practice and refresh my thought process when speaking khmer.
