Want to learn about Khmer History? simple, go find a book about it and read it in the comfort of your own living room. You don't need to waste hundreds of dollars on a stupid college course just to learn about your own damn history.

Do you think kids want to pick up a American history book and start reading about European history of what their forefathers did hundreds of years ago?

Most kids rather play on their xbox, ps3, computer games and watching mindless reality TV shows.

That's why they force it in the education system where every kid has to be indoctrinated and learn about their history. It's mandatory.

We're living in America, though. Makes sense to implement American history as it's required course. Trying to cater to every ethnicity academically is too much. Individuals can choose to learn about their native culture/history as an elective in certain schools, which is good enough.

    Dconstruktd, you're a retard..a loser.

I signed the petition...this is a positive thing. It's good to learn about all Americans. Not only that, it's good to learn about the world. If you don't like, don't sign and don't criticize. This is a good thing!

I remember back in the days when black people couldn't even learn about their own history and it's true to this day. When I was in school where it's mostly whites, asians, and latinos, we rarely talked about black history...that's sad.

I stopped reading after "You're a retard..a loser." Typical trash behavior from GKG as usual.

Black people have black history courses and so do Latinos, why can't Asians/Khmers have their own?

Black history was part of American history. It would make sense that schools require you to learn about it's country's history. I didn't say that means you can't learn about other country's histories, however, it makes no sense to make it a requirement or mandatory. That's why I said it should be kept as an elective.

You might personally be interested in Khmer history, but your classmates from different ethnicities may not. If it was mandatory, they would question how is it relevant to the country they're living in. Not only that, but courses would then have to cater to everyone else's ethnic country.

For example, I'm sure you probably wouldn't wanna be forced to learn about Filipino history lol. The course could be there if you want it, but I don't think it should be part of the main courses you have to take in order to pass. Plus, they already have World History and different various courses you can major in, such as Asian Studies.

ummm, Asian American history spans for over 200+ years in America. The first Chinese immigrants came by boat across the pacific ocean during the 1850s. They built the transcontinental railroad, worked in harsh conditions, paid low wages and worked long, strenuous hours during the California gold rush.

Hundreds of thousands of Japanese Americans were put into concentration camps during WWII because they felt they posed a threat to Americans. Not until recently, congress issued an official apology to those Japanese effected by that racist law.

Anti Miscegenation act is another piece of history every Asian person should know about. This was a law banning Asian men from marrying American women and prevented American women from seeking sexual relationships with Asian men. It wasn't outlawed until years later. This effectively kept their population #'s down and prevented them from building large communities.

Khmer Americans should know what American B52 bombs did to their ancestors, killing more than a million innocent children, women and men which played a big part in the uprising of the Khmer Rouge that led to millions more being slaughtered. It's due to this history, many Cambodians and their families fled thousands of miles away to a foreign land, speaking very little English, no education and with very little money.

This is part of American history we should all know about. It's a shame most Asian American's grow up not knowing their history. It's even more troublesome they're trying to keep it out of history books.

You're talking about Asian American history, but I'm talking about Asian history, straight up things about Asia...which is what you brought up initially.

But as for Asian American history (things that are relevent to America) I'm sure you have heard of the saying where history is written with biased intent. Obviously they're not gonna teach anything that would make their country look bad. That's why we shouldn't take what we've learned so literally, since history is biased and sometimes flawed. That's why we also have the option to research things for ourselves and compare notes.

Every country does it and I guarantee they leave out anything that would make their own country look bad. But back on topic about making Asian history (everything about Asia) mandatory for American education, I don't that's necessary for a required course. And like I said, they already have World history if you're interested in learning about other country's histories. But for you to expect them to teach about how they bombed or manipulated this country or that country lol CSJ, be realistic. These are actually two different topics, though. And I'm sure in college there's a variety of courses you can choose from that caters to your interests.
