this guy i know at work his hobby is working with wood. and he is very good at it plus he went to school for that. his friend ask why he doesn't use those skills in a job in that field. and he says a hobby is hobby once it's a job it's no longer a hobby and more than likely you won't like it anymore or enjoy it like when it was just a hobby.

is this like that glass is fuller/empty question. but i always see it as if you enjoy something and make it your career wouldn't that be awesome! working and getting paid in something you enjoy.

I think he has a point. Sometimes your hobby can be so great that making work out of it is just a natural and wonderful transition. I think it's better if you have some control of your work/hobby to make it so. If you're the boss and can make that work fit into that wonderful image of fun/joyful hobby then you can have the best of both worlds. If, on the other hand, you're working for some crappy boss that cares mainly about the bottom line and not creativity, then you're in for a sad and rude awakening.

I agree with him. Work is work, it's something you have to do. But a hobby is something you do at your own leisure - no pressure. I like making music from time to time, but I wouldn't ever wanna be a musician.
