I flew away from my home at the ripe age of 20 to the west side of Germany. The food that was served had the taste and flavor of American food. The only Asian food available was a subpar Chinese joint but never again after I got a 23€ bill for the water and refills alone. After 18 months, I've started missing my mother's cooking so I made a trip to the grocery store. I've never watched her cook so I had to replicate the flavor by memory and made a beef and onion dish. The last thing my father told me was how to make rice and living away from home, away from friends and family, I've built a relationship with food.

What compels you to cook? Is it the passion, the frugality, the skills or the fact that it's fresh? How were u taught?

I learned how to cook because I love mom's cooking, so when I left home at 17 I make sure I learn how to make my favorite Lao dishes. In turn I teach my princess how to cook.

I learned how to fry eggs(mixed w/ salt, pepper, sugar, and msg) when I was 7. Can't believe my parents trusted me at that age to handle a gas stove. I guess it's cuz they learned to cook at a young age too.

Nowadays, kids from the generation born after me in my family can't even serve ka-tieu from the pot for themselves. This includes teens. Sad.

Forgot to answer the question. What compels me to cook? Hunger. Can't just sit around and wait to be fed.

I don't remember what the first thing I cooked was, we grew up cooking with mum/gparents

I like cooking because I LOVE watching other people eat my food lol

It was a project I had to do for 9th grade Greek mythology, and every student had to do something involving Greeks, I chose to do mousaka which is a Greek lasagna. My dad helped me make it, but it turned out great. Nice to have a former Queen Mary cook to help u.

I admit, I can't cook for shit. But I can make gourmet instant noodles :D What compels me to cook.. I guess I didn't wanna be completely useless & relied on a girl to cook for me, so one day I just improvised.

Jek sngor when mother left us behind at KID we were poor vagrant so father brang us to temple or neighbor to eat and other days would picked a bunch of banana and I boil it up and we eat with salt or if we lucky, snake meat/egg or fish paste cause rice were more expensive :(
