I would say Chinese and Indian have it the easiest, because there are big numbers here already for 2-3 generations and they help each others. There are China towns and Little indias everywhere and lots of profession Chinese and Indians especially in Doctors and Law.

And I would say Khmer have it the hardest, because we come here recently and as refuge with no money and no family waiting for us like the Chinese and Indians had already.They put us mostly in the ghetto of LA and we had to struggle growing up around thugs and gang violence. We are the first generation khmer in north america, so we have it the hardest. :(

I have no idea how Indians got here. But anyways, it really depends on the time period. Back before we even came, Chinese had it pretty rough as well. As for us, the first and second generations worked pretty hard. We are now at least on the third and fourth generation and it's much easier for them as they have had their parents and grandparents provide for them. We are a small country so we come in small numbers. There's no way we can compare to the size of China or even India.

I met Sri Lankans for the first time, and quite surprised with their progress, living in an upscale condo and all. They came in similar situation as Khmer during the 80's and 90's as refugees, and the ones I met are a great example to the Sri Lankan community. I hope more are like them.

As to who has it the hardest, that's hard to say because there are so many factors affecting our daily lives. What we can say is that being of Asian descent we share a common struggle; although our struggles are more closely associated with the people who are closer to us (if that makes any sense to you).

every immigrant's had it rough in the beginning(besides the ones who came here and slaughtered the natives and brought slave ships to build the country). It gets easier for the next generation.

It depends, but in general, I say Chinese have it the hardest. They deal with the most racism or racial issues. They have the most pressure to work hard and excel. They have pressure to take care of family.

Khmer/Laos..maybe filipino people have it easy because the system supports much of us, and we can drive around in nice luxary cars.

At least for me, I felt that going to school, working hard, and making money to pay the bills was harder. It was wayy easier when I was jobless and getting the government money. Many Many khmer American women are falling to the system...because it's easy. Easy when the welfare check come in than looking for a job.

I agree with you. However, at the moment, it's pretty good being Khmer. Even during the recession, Khmers got the nicest cars. Only in America can you be a Khmer pop star and live on welfare! Tell what you say to Khmers around the world and that won't stop them from coming. I could be wrong, but America is probably the best place for Khmers. When what you say happens, Khmer people will get hit the hardest. The dream to come to America will be gone.

In America it is mostly blacks on welfare aside from white trash, and not Asian. So Why do Khmer have to be the ghetto negros of the Asian race?

I notice a lot of fellow khmer don't trust each other and don't want to see each other get ahead. I don't see a strong woven khmer community like you see in Korean or Chinese or Indian church or temples, you see them helping each other mostly.

Filipinos have it the easiest among us asian here in America. Their the only asian group who have/ had nationalist status. Their great- great grandparent speak english correctly plus they have family ties which lead to an easier life hedre in the states. Lao Viet Khmer were're basically newbiez here.
