Heinekens, Cambodian People, and BBQ
Boston, we had the weekend BBQs, the ice-cold Heinekens, and the occasional snow storms. Cambodian food was always good. I'd remembered and missed the sizzling beef teriyaki marinated with lemon grass grilling on the BBQ.
I wanted change in my life, and so I left everything behind in Boston to start a new life in the Golden State. California here I come!
I came here hoping to meet new Cambodian friends, and hopefully do the same thing we did in Boston. Little did I know that Cambodians are hard to come by here in Nor Cal.
It's rare to meet any Cambodians here in Northern California regardless of where you go.
It's been ove a year since I moved to Nor Cal, and I have only found ONE Cambodiain friend. Unfortunately, we met at a karaoake bar. Unless I'm mistaken, the Cambodians I know don't go to karaoke bars to sing their hearts out -- they do it from home.
My new Cambodian friend was nested in a pool of Chinese people so it was hard to distinguish since we all looked similar to them.
Time has passed, and the only way to see Cambodians is to drive over 2 hours to Stockton, and hang out on Hammer Lane. And if you pick the right park, you may see some people grilling traditional beef teriyaki and other Cambodian dishes to sell.
Driving to Stockton is just too much work. Where do you guys or gals who live here in Nor Cal hang out?
A new year is just around the corner and I want to meet and network with more Cambodians. I need to dilute my 99% concentration of Chinese friends that I have now. :-)
Yes, I've tried meetup.com, and have not found any Cambodians there. In fact, I was going to start my own meetup, but from what I saw there are no Cambodians participating in any of these activities.
Could someone shed some light on this topic please and guide me?
Thanks!
