depend on the length of you hair. I usually do my own dye if I want to do one tone. 10bucks box dyed. When i want want highlights when I had long hair it was 80 plus.

Had a friend high-light my hair for me-it looked very pretty but damaged my hair badly.
When I first started dying and high-lighting my own hair is turned out pretty horribly. Now, that I kinda have more experience under my belt buckle, it's not that bad when I color my own hair. I've tried a different methods, know about bases, and most importantly know that caring for my colored treated hair is very important in having a very good experience. I also hate using the boxed hair colors.
edit* sorry notice your wanted to know how we felt about our hair color- depend on how it turned out- i felt like my hair is pretty. when i tried to bleach my hair and screwed up,ending up with one side of my head bleached.pretty crappy.

The first time I dyed my hair was back in middle school. I think my father helped me dye my hair and it was supposed to be that strawberry auburn colour, but darker of course. It ended up turning burgandy.
But now it's somewhat lighter. You can't really tell unless you're in the sunlight, I think or have a very good light. My black hair is coming out again.

i once had a friend who went to school to do hair, I had her color my hair...cus i was being a cheapskate, but a good friend being her guinea pig and all. she bleached my hair and left the chemicals on for a little too long that it burnt my scalp and my hair fell out. surely enough i had a bald spot!!! ugh. she was horrified and apologetic. she felt so bad she cried, but i couldnt be too angry with her.
that was my karma for when i went to school for massage, i broke someone's back and the lady couldn't work for a week and visit her daughter who was in the hospital with bone marrow cancer. served me right!

i dyed my hair blonde trying to make it white. i used peroxide.
i didn't like it because it turned out really patchy.
so i got some walgreens hair dye to make my hair red. i used it then my hair turned pink lolz
so then i got another one burgandy. it made my hair dark purple. i liked that alot. then less than a week my hair turned back black.

i bought a really light blonde dye to highlight my hair, and it turned out really good. since i didnt bleach my hair, and just put it on, it balanced out with the black to make a really dark blonde, it looked cool. and when its wet it turned brown. so it changed between brown + blonde depending on the humidity xD lol.

the first time I dyed my hair was when I was 19. I bought a kit. I was supposed to have red streaks, but somehow I ended up with intensely blond streaks. Apparently, it made me look a different ethnicity. For the first time in my life, someone asked me if I was Thai. I corrected it a few days later with burgundy and the result was much nicer...I had purplish hair with noticeably red streaks.
and 2 years ago, I had my cousin highlight my hair blond, but it came out frighteningly orange-ish. This time, I looked Japanese. I had it fixed a few days later with a caramel color.

During my freshman year in hs, my cousin and I went to this beauty school salon to get some highlights. We ended up leaving with different tones of orange all over our heads. It was hideous... and not mention the damage it did to our hair. My hair was constantly falling out .

I hate dying my own hair. Every time I try to dye it blonde it at home, it doesn't come out the way I want it. I tried blue, but it came out green due to my light hair. I like it when my aunt in Stockton does it, but only go to them when I want an extreme color. Other than that, I stick to natural colors now 'cause of bad experiences.
