[EDITED] Karma and Reincarnation

3 weeks ago - 11/4/2009 @ 4:30 PM

I’d say +/- 90% of people, all walks of life and races [edited] - *whether they want to believe it or accept the universal principles or not - they are self-evident, like the air we breathe and the heat we feel on our skin*, believe in such a thing called Karma; the general definition of the word entails the cycle of cause and effect – which can further be deduced down to negative – positive, good – evil, light – dark, life - death, etc… if there’s matter, then there’s anti-matter; and listen to this carefully, if there’s GOD, then there absolutely exists ANTI-GOD or SATAN… doesn’t that scare yah?! I know, blasphemy some of you would say… yeah, I know, I’m going to hell… but hey, at least, I’ll have a warm reception all the way around =P

Well, in Buddhism, our beloved Cambodian religion, Karma is like an exchange currency; as in the old days, we used colored rocks as a means of exchanging goods and/or services; thus the quality of the goods and services you get will base entirely on the number or quality of colored rocks you have; therefore, in terms of Karma, the quality of your next life [reincarnation] will proportionally depend on the quality of your Karma [good or bad deeds you’ve collected in your present life]…

In short, if you believe in KARMA, should you also believe in REINCARNATION?!?

So, with all that mumbo-jumbo said, how would you like your next life to be?!?!

Do you agree or disagree or do you have anything better than my moronic membranes can offer?!? OR perhaps, if you SO strongly disagree and feels that I should be catapulted at 200mph straight into a concrete wall, please don't hesitate to say so... :)

What are your thoughts?!?

I don't believe in karma so I won't have a next life to have a chance to be anything. Why don't I believe in karma? Because if I believe in karma I'd have to believe there's a higher power out there looking down on us and punishing us for the bad things we do and I just do not believe that. I believe GOOD people who do good things have good things happen to them because obviously if you immerse yourself in goodness that's what you will get and vice versa for bad. If you are in a bad neighborhood, doing bad things obviously...bad things will mostlikely happen to you. But is there something bigger than all of us keeping scores? Nah. I don't believe it. I like the way you think and I understand everything EXCEPT if you believe in karma you "have" to believe in reincarnation. That..I don't understand.

Like you, I too don't believe in the "ONE" that sees everything, omnipresent - keeping scores on us like a creepy stalker - I think it's LAME to the 10th degree; however, I, like Einstein, believe in the cycle of energy [energy merely transforms - it's neither created nor destroyed] - which is Karma [it's just a term for the 'recycling process']... you're right, i might have to revise the 'reincarnation' part ;)

I believe in God. I just don't think he keeps scores and punish us for the wrong things we do in life =P. By the way I'm curious. If you believe in the cycle of energy do you believe in magic? Cause people say that's all magic is. Energy.

my dear "Paradox" - i had some Magic trainings in the past. i hate to break it to you, magic is just slight of hands and optical illusions... if magic was real and if such accessible power was available, we'd all be Harry Potters by now ;) i do believe in negative and positive energy, though... we [ourselves] are individual capsules of energy - some of choose the evil catalyst in life and some choose love [which i prefer - that warm fuzzy feeling that crinkles my nose] =P

The true Buddhist's final goal is to not reincarnate at all(Nibbana). That is why monks dread reincarnation because every other state is impermanent and is due to change or in other words suffering. But, rebirth is Heaven is better then rebirth in Hell because it's better to go forward on the path rather then backwards.

Better than sovereignty over the Earth, better than going to Heaven, better than lordship over all the worlds, is the reward of the first step in holiness.--The Buddha Gotama :)

YES! considering our children are the product of our collective deeds, whether they're good or bad... if we as parents are great, our children may call their lives as having a beautiful predisposition to a good life... thus vice versa if we as parents are an accumulation of dirty deeds... perhaps, "Buddhist4life" can enlighten us with this inquiry...

By oneself, the evil deed is done, By oneself, one is defiled. By oneself, the evil deed is not done, By oneself, one becomes purified. Purity and impurity are done by oneself. No one can purify another."--The Buddha Gotama
