Frustrated

There is nothing more frustrating than knowing your baby is allergic to something.. but you don't know what.

For the past month and a half, Lana has been breaking out into these itchy hives which comes on goes. Some days she'll get 'em.. other days she won't. The first day she broke out in hives and complained of them being itchy, I made a same-day appt and took her into her pediatrician's office. The doc told me that she was having an allergic reaction to something and that it could last for up to 3 weeks.

Well it's been well over a month now.. and still, hives galore. I took her back and her doc referred us to an allergy pediatrician.. but we aren't able to get in til the 1st of next month...ergh. We must have like 10 different itch creams but nothing seems to help.. except for Children's Benedryl. Idk but I hate giving her Benedryl everytime she breaks out bc I feel like her body is so reliant on it now.. but I must, bc I also hate seeing her crying and uncomfortable.

I have no clue to what she may be allergic to. I mean, I haven't given her anything or exposed her to anything out of the norm. I'm soo anticipating her allergy appt so we can hopefully get to the bottom of this. I heard theirallergy tests they do for the lil ones aren't so fun though :/

Aww sorry to hear :/. I think that's probably what they'll have to do to her.. poor baby. I just cannot wait 'til we find out what she's allergic to so we can keep her away from it.
The only thing I am allergic to is.. cats.

Yeah, it should be fairly painless, but if shes a toddler, hope won't even remember it later haha. I'm allergic to dust, pollen, ragweed, cats, nuts etc. I also had to get a battery of shots, from weekly, to monthly, to yearly over 5-10 years =\

Yikes! That's some major stuff.. especially for a child. I think you just scared me a bit, haha. That's so crazy though having to go through all of that. I can't imagine!

My niece have teh same problems. No matter what the doctor recommend for medication, she still have those hives. No cream work, and I'm also frustrated for her. I feel bad seeing her hands and legs having all these scabs from scratching too much. We don't know what causes it. We even wash her bed sheet, pillows every other day. Still nothing. If you find out, please let me know.

Have you guys taken her to an allergy doctor? If not, you should. They can do allergy tests on her which can narrow it down.
Nobody in my family are allergic to anything except for me. I'm allergic to cats.. but we don't even own a cat or any other pets for that matter. But of course, I will let you know!

sorry to hear that...i have allergic reaction too...bee sting me all the time and nothing was wrong..u know just a small swell..the it was gone. then one day i got stung, BAM! just like that i went into anaphylaxis shock. So, wat i'm trying to say is the norm thing can turn into an allergy just like that...and the more time you are expose to it, the more serious it get. I'm not trying to scare you or anything but to raise awareness for you. i started out with itches then trouble breathing...BOOM..i fainted and have to rushed to the ER....

Whoa, that's really scary :/.

That's exactly what I'm worried about though.. that her symptoms will go beyond hives.. and she'll have trouble breathing or something. I've done just about everything to try and figure out what it is she's allergic to.. but nothing. It sucks bc when I made her appt with her allergy doctor.. their earliest opening was until the next 3 weeks. HUY

I'm like that too. I'll break out in hives and the docs can't figure out what I am allergic too. They say it must be something in the air. sucks!

Only as a kid too. I've only broke out in hives once since the age of 10.

I'm clearly speaking out of my ass, but maybe her immune system is still building itself. She's obvious at home a lot and has not been expose to much, so if and when she does go out or encounter objects, items such as plant life, her immune system hasn't built a tolerance to them yet. This is not to say, then maybe there are small mites hidden in blankets, grass, other kids clothing and so forth. Good luck, Sally.

Hm.. perhaps that may very well be a possibility. If so, I hope it ends NOW :(. Thanks, Vi.

3 years ago, I used to break out in hives.. for a whole summer and couldn't figure out what it was. I just kept on taking benedryl, and, for some reason, it went away. All the best to you and your daughter, though :(

Thanks, missy. The sucky thing about allergies is.. you have to play the guessing game.. and sometimes you never even find out what it is you're allergic to. Glad to hear yours never came back though :)
